Unit #   Name Level
Credits
10851 Operate a powered industrial lift truck (forklift)  3 7
18496 Demonstrate knowledge and skills for driving a forklift on a road for endorsement F  3 2

This course equips learners to safely operate forklifts in the workplace. For those opting for the F endorsement, it also covers the knowledge and skills necessary for driving a forklift safely and legally on a road.

The Virtual Reality (VR) simulation provides consistent and objective evaluations. Learners experience various simulated road and workplace conditions, including scenarios that cannot be safely replicated in real life. Assessment results from each module help identify areas for further coaching.

Overview

Forklift Operator (Optional + F Endorsement) course overview

It’s easy to assume that operating a forklift is similar to driving a car, but this underestimates the level of skill and awareness required. Without the right training, the risks can increase quickly. This Forklift Operator course builds the knowledge and skills required to safely operate a forklift in the workplace, with the option to complete the requirements for an F endorsement for driving on a road.

We don’t rely on classroom-only training. Instead, our industry-experienced trainers combine practical, hands-on experience with immersive learning. Participants work directly with forklifts to carry out pre-operational checks, understand machine components, and practise safe operating techniques. Our VR simulators are also used to provide consistent and realistic scenarios, allowing learners to experience workplace and road conditions, test hazard awareness, and build confidence before operating in real environments. The course also covers legal responsibilities, including NZTA requirements for those completing the F endorsement.

IMPAC’s focus is on building capable and aware operators who understand both the equipment they are using and the risks involved. Participants step back into the workplace equipped to operate safely, carry out pre-start checks, and apply safe practices in a range of operating conditions.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:
  • Workers who operate forklifts in warehouses, construction, manufacturing, logistics, and similar high-movement environments.
  • Team leaders, supervisors, and managers overseeing forklift use who need a clear understanding of safe operating practices.
  • Employers and PCBUs wanting operators to apply safer forklift checks, load handling, and day-to-day operating practices.
  • Learners needing the road-use component for an F endorsement because forklift driving on a road is part of their role.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Forklift Operator (Optional + F Endorsement) training approach

IMPAC’s forklift operator training combines trainer-led instruction with hands-on practice, so learners are not left trying to translate theory into workplace decisions on their own. The course moves through the key behaviours operators need every day, including pre-operational checks, machine awareness, load handling, and safe operation in changing environments.

A key part of the training is the use of immersive VR forklift simulators that place learners into realistic workplace and road-use situations that would be difficult, impractical, or unsafe to recreate consistently in live training. Participants work through practical exercises both in the simulator and on the forklift itself, helping them build confidence, improve hazard awareness, and understand why positioning, sequencing, visibility, and decision-making matter when people, plant, and loads are moving around them.
