Duration: 1/2 day or 1 day
This course helps ensure that learners remain competent by conducting competency assessments. These assessments confirm that, post-course, knowledge and skills are effectively applied in the workplace. By completing this verification, organisations can ensure that correct procedures are consistently followed.
The course includes observation and verbal questioning, designed to have minimal impact on workplace operations. It may also identify any training gaps. Employers commonly use the VOC as part of return-to-work programmes or post-incident evaluations to ensure skills remain current.

What you'll cover
- Workers who need formal confirmation that they can still carry out a task safely and to the required standard.
- Employees returning to work after time away from a role, or following an incident, where competency needs to be reassessed.
- Individuals who have completed earlier training and now need their capability verified in the workplace.
- Supervisors and managers responsible for confirming workers remain competent and continue following correct procedures.
Our approach
+IMPAC's Verification of Competency training approach
A verification of competency assessment is designed to confirm whether someone can apply their training safely and consistently in the work they are actually expected to carry out. IMPAC’s assessors observe people performing relevant tasks, ask targeted questions about the controls and procedures being used, and check that critical decisions are being made correctly in the moment.
Because verification requirements vary between workplaces and activities, the assessment stays closely connected to the specific task, equipment, hazards, permits, and procedures involved. The focus is on practical performance rather than theory alone, helping identify whether training is being applied consistently, where gaps may have developed over time, and whether further support or refresher training may be needed.
Assessments are carried out in a way that reflects normal work as closely as possible, so organisations receive usable evidence of current capability and workers receive direct feedback about their performance against workplace expectations.
