Health and Safety Leadership Team NZ
Meet the IMPAC leadership team. Our directors and managers are seasoned health and safety practitioners dedicated to preventing serious harm in New Zealand.
Meet the IMPAC leadership team
At IMPAC, our leadership team is built of practitioners, not theorists. Our executive team blends decades of heavy industry experience, commercial acumen, and deep health and safety expertise. We have managed major infrastructure projects, navigated corporate governance, and been on the frontline of high-risk operations. We understand the focus, the financial pressure, and the blood, sweat, and tears it takes to build and run a substantial organisation.
Executive directors
Tom Reeves – Executive Director Tom is a founding Director of IMPAC, establishing the business in 1999 with a vision to take a pragmatic, uncompromising approach to health and safety in New Zealand. With over 30 years of experience traversing oil and gas, underground mining, electricity, forestry, and heavy industrial manufacturing, Tom bridges the gap between operational reality and executive governance. He frequently supports clients under legal privilege and acts as an expert witness. Tom is uniquely placed to assist executives and Boards because he is both a seasoned safety professional and a hardened business leader. He is also a member of the NZISM Board.
Logan Aves – Managing Director (IMPAC and Safeworx) Logan joined the business in 2017 as Board Chair before assuming management of Safeworx in 2021 and becoming Managing Director of IMPAC in 2022. He brings over 15 years of hard-won experience in the construction and infrastructure sectors, having held General Manager positions at Downer, Fletcher, and KiwiRail. Logan drives the strategic expansion of our products and services, ensuring IMPAC continually develops innovative, commercially viable solutions for our clients' most complex operational challenges.
Gabby Aves – Executive Director Gabby joined IMPAC in 2017, bringing extensive experience from the construction sector and professional services industries in Human Resource and Change Leadership roles. Her strategic thinking and empowering leadership style focus heavily on internal operational excellence. Gabby is an astute relationship builder, ensuring our teams remain agile and capable of developing highly practical, fit-for-purpose safety solutions that align with our clients' commercial realities.

Operations, product and training leaders

He ensures that our cloud-based Risk Manager platform remains the most dynamic, client-focused health and safety engine in the industry - designed to manage actual risk rather than just functioning as a digital filing cabinet.
Nicholas (Nick) Matzopoulos – Head of Training Nick has an outstanding track record of leading large training teams, including starting and running his own award-winning health and safety training business in South Africa. Nick is responsible for overseeing our national training operations, growing our market-leading portfolio, and fostering a true learning culture. He ensures our highly skilled facilitation team is primed to deliver uncompromising, practical education to New Zealand's workforce.
Sven Mattiesson – Operations Manager (Consulting) Sven possesses exceptional people and project management skills, honed through a demanding career in operational management. Having successfully managed massive teams through the extreme uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic in the hospitality sector, Sven now coordinates the day-to-day business processes of our advisory team. His continuous improvement mindset ensures that our consultants deploy efficiently to deliver uncompromising, first-rate value to our clients.
How does IMPAC’s leadership influence the company's services? Our leadership enforces a strict "practitioner, not a theorist" mentality across all divisions. Whether we are developing a new module for our Risk Manager software, writing a consulting report, or delivering a training course, our leaders ensure the output is commercially viable, practically sound, and entirely focused on preventing serious harm.
