Confined Space and Gas Detection Refresher

This refresher is for workers who already take part in confined space entry or supervise that work. That includes entrants, standby persons, supervisors, permit receivers, permit issuers, and managers who need to maintain confidence in confined space controls, gas detection, and monitoring requirements.

Many clients, sites, and industry standards expect Confined Space and Gas Detection Refresher training to be completed regularly to help workers maintain competency in high-risk environments. While legislation does not prescribe a fixed refresher interval, PCBUs are expected to ensure workers remain capable of carrying out confined space work safely. Refresher training is commonly used to review gas detection, hazardous atmospheres, permit systems, and critical confined space controls.

Yes, learners should already hold one or more of the relevant unit standards before attending this refresher. Learners will only be refreshed against the unit standards they currently hold.

The course runs for half a day. The refresher is designed to reinforce existing knowledge and practical decision-making without repeating the full initial programme, while still covering permits, hazards, gas detection, and atmospheric testing expectations.

Yes. This refresher can be completed either online as a pre-recorded webinar or face-to-face.

Yes, this refresher course includes an assessment to confirm learners can still apply confined space entry and gas detection requirements safely.

No, this refresher does not award new NZQA unit standards. It helps learners maintain their capability and revisit existing knowledge and practical skills.

Yes, gas detection and atmospheric testing are a core part of the refresher. Learners revisit how to use testing equipment, interpret oxygen, flammable, and toxic gas readings, and respond appropriately before and during confined space entry.

IMPAC recommends that learners complete refresher training at least every two years to maintain their knowledge and competency. Some clients or industry requirements may require more frequent refreshers.

Learners who complete the refresher training and assessment will receive an updated IMPAC Certificate of Competency covering the confined space and gas detection unit standards they currently hold.

Yes, this course is available for both public and in-house delivery.
