Learners identify and manage hazards, develop emergency procedures, and complete essential documentation such as Job Safety Analyses, Permits to Work, and Safe Operating Procedures.

*For our inhouse courses, we can offer training on the EWP theory and any machines of choice such as scissor lifts, self-propelled booms, vertical lifts and truck-mounted and trailer-mounted EWP's.

Overview

Mobile Elevated Work Platforms course overview

Operating a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) is a high-risk activity and is not as simple as stepping into the basket and pushing a control. Without the right setup and understanding of the equipment, the potential for harm can increase quickly. This Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP) course builds the knowledge and skills required to safely assess, operate, and secure MEWPs across a range of configurations, depending on the needs of your workplace.

We don’t rush through MEWP training to tick a box. Instead, our industry-experienced trainers focus on developing a clear understanding of worksite assessment, ground conditions, positioning, and safe operation. Delivered in-house, the course can be tailored to include the types of MEWPs used in your workplace, including scissor lifts, self-propelled boom lifts, vertical lifts, and truck-mounted or trailer-mounted platforms. Participants also learn how to identify risks, apply controls, understand permit requirements, and implement emergency and rescue procedures.

IMPAC’s focus is on building capable and aware operators who understand both the equipment and the risks involved. Participants are trained on the specific MEWPs relevant to their role and step back into the workplace equipped to safely set up, position, and operate that equipment, ensuring work at height is carried out safely.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:
  • Workers who need to safely and efficiently operate MEWPs as part of their role.
  • People using scissor lifts, boom lifts, vertical lifts, truck-mounted platforms, or trailer-mounted platforms when working at height.
  • Supervisors, team leaders, and health and safety professionals overseeing MEWP use who need a stronger understanding of safe set-up, operation, and risk controls.
  • Teams working in construction, warehousing and logistics, arboriculture, landscaping, maintenance and facilities management, utilities, film production, and emergency services.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Mobile Elevated Work Platforms training approach

IMPAC’s mobile elevated work platform training focuses on how safe MEWP use works in real workplaces, not just how to move the machine. Trainers take learners through the decisions that matter before the platform leaves the ground, including worksite checks, ground conditions, equipment inspection, hazard controls, and whether the selected platform is suitable for the task.

Learners work through guided examples and practical operating activities that connect the unit standards to day-to-day site conditions. That includes set-up, positioning, shutdown, fault reporting, permit requirements, and what an effective rescue response needs to cover. The result is training that helps people return to site with a clearer understanding of both safe operation and the judgement that sits around it.
