No, NZQA unit standards are not awarded on completion of this refresher course. It is designed for learners who already hold Unit Standard 17590 and need to refresh their permit issuing knowledge and workplace responsibilities.

The course refreshes the core knowledge and skills needed to issue worksite-specific permits safely and correctly. That includes Permit Issuer responsibilities, identifying when a permit is needed, preparing the worksite, issuing and auditing permits, and checking additional controls for higher-risk activities such as hot work, confined space entry, work at height, and excavation.

IMPAC recommends refresher training at least every two years to help permit issuers stay current on procedures, control verification, and the judgement needed for high-risk work. Refresher training may also be needed where site requirements, risks, or work methods change.

Learners who pass the refresher assessment will receive an updated IMPAC Certificate of Competency covering permit issuer training. This helps organisations maintain evidence of ongoing competency for permit-controlled work.
