Hot Works - Fire Watch Seminar Training

Yes, this course is suited to people involved in hot works and the fire watch activities that support them. It is particularly relevant for workers carrying out welding, cutting, grinding, or soldering, as well as supervisors and others responsible for checking that fire risks are controlled properly.

Fire Watch training is highly relevant anywhere hot works are being carried out, particularly where workers are responsible for monitoring fire risk during and after the work. While not every worker is legally required to complete this training, workplaces commonly use it to support permit controls, fire prevention measures, and safe hot works practices.

There are no formal prerequisites for this seminar. Learners should still be comfortable following written and spoken English instructions, as the training covers permits, responsibilities, hazard controls, and emergency response expectations.

The course runs for half a day. That allows time to cover the main fire risks linked to hot works, Fire Watch responsibilities, and the practical controls used to help prevent fire events.

A Fire Watch needs to understand the fire risks created by hot works, the controls in place, and what to do if conditions become unsafe. That includes monitoring the area during the job, understanding permit requirements, knowing how to use fire suppression equipment, and carrying out effective post-work checks once the hot work has finished.

Learners receive a Certificate of Completion from IMPAC. The seminar also provides practical guidance on hot work hazards, Fire Watch responsibilities, permit requirements, hazard controls, and the use of fire extinguishers and other fire suppression equipment.

IMPAC recommends refresher training at least every two years to help workers maintain confidence identifying fire hazards, monitoring hot works activities, and responding appropriately in an emergency. Some workplaces or high-risk environments may require refresher training more frequently depending on the nature of the work and site requirements.
