Overview

Fire Extinguisher course overview

Hanging a fire extinguisher on the wall and hoping for the best isn’t an emergency strategy. When a fire occurs, uncertainty or incorrect use can make the situation worse rather than contain it. This half-day Fire Extinguisher course is designed for those who may need to respond to a fire and want to understand how to act safely and effectively.

We focus on what matters in an emergency, not just theory or compliance videos. Our industry-experienced trainers guide learners through the key elements of fire response, including fire classes, types of extinguishers and their uses, and basic fire science principles. Participants develop the skills to assess a situation, understand when it is safe to act, and select the most appropriate response. They also gain hands-on experience using fire extinguishers in a controlled environment, along with an understanding of fire prevention and workplace fire safety systems.

IMPAC’s focus is on building capable people who can respond safely and use fire equipment correctly when needed. Participants leave with a clear understanding of how to operate fire equipment, the confidence to act when it is safe to do so, and the practical skills to support an effective response in a fire emergency.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:
  • Workers who may need to use a fire extinguisher or hose reel in the early stages of a workplace fire, where it is safe to do so.
  • Team members who need a practical understanding of fire classes, extinguisher selection, and first-response decision-making.
  • HR professionals and safety coordinators arranging workplace fire response training.
  • Organisations that want staff to build confidence with fire equipment and respond more effectively in a fire emergency.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Fire Extinguisher training approach

This course is delivered as practical fire response training, not a theory-heavy session. Learners work through the decisions that matter in the first moments of a fire: what kind of fire they are dealing with, which equipment is suitable, when it is safe to intervene, and when evacuation is the right response.

Training combines clear guidance from an experienced facilitator with discussion, examples, and supervised practical extinguisher use. The focus is on helping people recognise fire classes, choose the right extinguisher or hose reel, and use workplace fire equipment correctly and calmly if an incident occurs.
