Fire Warden (Pre-recorded Webinar)

Fire warden training is suited to people responsible for supporting evacuations and emergency response in the workplace. That includes designated fire wardens, team leaders, supervisors, managers, and others who may need to guide people to safety during an emergency. It is particularly useful in workplaces where clear communication and coordinated evacuation procedures are important.

Workplaces that appoint fire wardens need to ensure those people understand their responsibilities and can carry out emergency procedures effectively. While there is no legal requirement to complete a specific fire warden course, training is commonly used to help wardens manage evacuations, communicate during emergencies, and support workplace emergency plans.

Learners need written and spoken English equivalent to NCEA Level 1 (Year 11) or an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher. If a learner may need additional support, please contact our team before enrolment to discuss available support options.

Yes. Managers and supervisors are often involved in evacuation coordination, communication, and checking that areas have been cleared safely. Training these roles alongside designated wardens helps create a more consistent emergency response across the workplace.

This pre-recorded webinar takes approximately 4 hours to complete, depending on the learner’s pace. Learners can complete the training online through IMPAC’s LMS at a time that suits them.

Yes. Learners who successfully complete the assessment are awarded NZQA Unit Standard 18408, which covers fire and emergency warden duties in the workplace.

Learners who successfully complete the assessment can achieve NZQA Unit Standard 18408 and will also receive a Certificate of Competency from IMPAC.

IMPAC recommends that fire wardens complete refresher training at least every two years to keep their knowledge and emergency response capability current. Some workplaces, clients, or industry requirements may require more frequent refreshers, particularly where site layouts, evacuation procedures, staffing, or workplace risks change. NZQA unit standards do not expire, but regular refresher training helps wardens remain confident in their emergency roles and responsibilities.
