Overview

Permit Receiver Refresher course overview

Over time, working under permits can become routine. After completing similar work repeatedly, it can be easy to fall into an “I’ve done this before” mindset and not fully consider the specific task or changing conditions, where the consequences can be devastating. This Permit Receiver Refresher course reinforces the knowledge and skills required to maintain a consistent and effective approach to working under a permit.

We’re not here to simply tick a compliance box. Instead, our industry-experienced trainers revisit key elements of the permit to work process to challenge existing habits and reinforce good practice. Participants revisit how to prepare for work, understand permit conditions, verify critical controls, and recognise when conditions have changed. The course also reinforces communication requirements and when additional controls are required for high-risk activities such as hot work, confined space entry, working at height, and excavation.

IMPAC’s focus is on reinforcing practical capability so workers can safely carry out their tasks under a permit. Participants step back into the workplace equipped to apply permit conditions with greater awareness, recognise when work should not proceed, and ensure work is carried out safely.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:
  • People who already hold Unit Standard 17588 and need to refresh how they receive permits, confirm controls, and work safely under permit conditions during high-risk activities.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Permit Receiver Refresher training approach

This permit receiver refresher course is built around the decisions permit receivers need to make in real workplaces, not just the theory behind a permit system. Learners work back through the permit process step by step, reviewing what needs to be checked before work starts, what must stay within scope once work is underway, and what to do when conditions change.

The training uses practical examples and a high-risk work scenario to revisit how permit conditions, isolation requirements, communication, and documentation work together. Rather than treating permits as paperwork, the course keeps the focus on what safe execution looks like in day-to-day operations, including when to pause, escalate, or stop work because the controls are no longer right.
