This course is designed for managers, supervisors, team leaders, and other leaders who support or work alongside Health and Safety Representatives. It is especially useful for people who need to respond to concerns, coach others, support consultation, and make sure worker participation is practical rather than tokenistic.

Managers working with Health and Safety Representatives need to understand how worker engagement, consultation, and participation should operate in practice. While there is no specific legal requirement to complete an HSR support course, training helps managers understand HSR roles, consultation processes, and how to support effective worker participation arrangements.

The course runs for half a day, allowing managers to work through HSR roles, worker participation requirements, communication approaches, and practical ways to support worker engagement in health and safety.

The course covers why workplace health and safety matters, duty holders under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, worker engagement and participation, and the role, functions, and powers of HSRs. IMPAC recommends managers revisit this training whenever responsibilities change, HSR arrangements are introduced or updated, or consultation and engagement issues begin appearing in the workplace. Refresher training can also help managers maintain effective communication, worker participation, and constructive working relationships with health and safety representatives.
