Overview

Health & Safety Leadership for Frontline Managers / Supervisors course overview

When work pressure increases, it’s easy for standards to slip and for risk to creep in. Supervisors play a critical role in ensuring health and safety remains part of everyday work, not something that is set aside when the job gets busy. This Health & Safety Leadership for Frontline Managers and Supervisors course is designed to give leaders the practical skills to manage risk, influence behaviour, and lead health and safety in day-to-day operations.

We don’t rely on theory or generic leadership models. Facilitated by experienced trainers, this course focuses on the real challenges frontline leaders face. Through practical activities and guided discussion, participants develop the skills to identify hazards, manage risks, respond to incidents, and have effective safety conversations with their teams. The course also explores how to reinforce expectations, address unsafe behaviours, and build a proactive safety culture through consistent leadership.

IMPAC’s focus is on supporting frontline leaders to turn expectations into consistent action. Participants leave with a clear understanding of their responsibilities, the confidence to lead their teams, and the tools to apply health and safety in a practical way. Your supervisors step back onto the floor equipped to manage risk, influence behaviour, and create safer outcomes through everyday leadership.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:
  • Supervisors who need to manage day-to-day work without letting health and safety slip when pressure increases.
  • Team leaders responsible for setting expectations, reinforcing safe behaviours, and responding when issues arise.
  • Frontline managers who oversee teams, tasks, and operational risk in busy New Zealand workplaces.
  • Organisations wanting stronger health and safety leadership at the point where work is planned, supervised, and carried out.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Health & Safety Leadership for Frontline Managers / Supervisors training approach

This course is delivered as a practical, facilitator-led workshop that reflects the pressures supervisors and team leaders face when work is busy and standards are at risk of slipping. Rather than relying on theory or generic leadership models, the training uses guided discussion, trainer-led examples, and practical activities to keep the focus on how health and safety is maintained as part of everyday work.

The facilitation stays grounded in real situations, helping learners work through how decisions are made, how expectations are reinforced, and how conversations are handled when things are not going to plan. The emphasis is on keeping the learning relevant and applied, so participants can test their thinking and connect it directly to the way work is led on site.
