IOSH Approved Managing Workplace Safety

This course is best suited to managers, supervisors, health and safety personnel, and operational or maintenance staff involved in managing workplace safety. It is especially useful for people needing a clearer framework for hazard identification, risk control, incident investigation, and safety leadership. That makes it relevant across a wide range of New Zealand workplaces.

Managers and supervisors need the knowledge and confidence to manage health and safety responsibilities effectively within the work they oversee. While IOSH Approved Managing Workplace Safety is not specifically prescribed as a mandatory course under New Zealand law, many organisations use it to strengthen practical risk management capability, improve safety leadership, and support safer day-to-day decision-making in the workplace.

IOSH (the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) is the world's largest chartered professional body for health and safety professionals. IOSH promotes safer and healthier workplaces through professional development, research, advocacy, and internationally recognised training programmes delivered through approved providers.

IMPAC has been an approved IOSH training provider since 2010 and is approved to deliver the IOSH Approved Managing Workplace Safety course.

Learners need written and spoken English equivalent to NCEA Level 1 (Year 11) or an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher. If a learner may need additional support, please contact our team before enrolment to discuss available support options.

This course runs over 3 days, allowing learners to work through the six modules, practical workplace application, discussion activities, and assessment requirements in a structured way.

Yes, this course includes two assessments: an in-class closed-book assessment and an off-course risk assessment project due within two weeks of the course end date. Together, these assessments confirm learners understand key workplace health and safety concepts and can apply them in practice.

No, this course does not include NZQA unit standards. Instead, learners who successfully complete the assessments receive an IOSH Managing Workplace Safety certificate.

Learners should leave with a clearer and more practical approach to managing workplace safety. That includes identifying hazards, assessing and controlling risks, investigating incidents, measuring health and safety performance, and demonstrating stronger safety leadership. The aim is to help people make better workplace decisions, not just understand the concepts in theory.

Learners who successfully complete the course assessments receive an IOSH certificate. Learners also receive a practical pocket guide that can be used as a workplace reference after the training.

Yes, this course is available for both public and in-house delivery. In-house training can help organisations build a more consistent understanding of workplace safety responsibilities, risk management, and leadership expectations across managers and supervisors.

For public face-to-face courses, morning tea and lunch are provided. If you have specific dietary requirements such as allergies, vegan, or gluten-free needs, please contact IMPAC at training@impac.co.nz at least two working days before training. Please note that dietary preferences cannot be accommodated.

In-house: $17,500 + GST for up to 12 persons, with additional persons charged at $1650 + GST each (maximum of 16).

Public (face-to-face): $1975 + GST per person.
