Learners revisit hazard identification, risk control measures, emergency procedures, and essential documentation such as Job Safety Analyses, Permits to Work, and Safe Operating Procedures.

*For our inhouse courses, we can offer training on the EWP theory and any machines of choice such as scissor lifts, self-propelled booms, vertical lifts and truck-mounted and trailer-mounted EWP's.

Overview

Mobile Elevated Work Platforms Refresher course overview

“I’ve been using MEWPs for years” is a common mindset when operating this equipment. Over time, it can become easy to rely on familiarity and let attention drift, particularly during setup and positioning. This is where safe practices can slip and risk increases. This Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP) Refresher course revisits the knowledge and skills required to safely assess, set up, and operate MEWPs.

We don’t treat refresher training as something to rush through just to meet a requirement. Instead, our industry-experienced trainers focus on reinforcing the critical elements that can slip over time, including worksite assessment, ground conditions, positioning, and safe operation. The course revisits the use of different MEWPs such as scissor lifts, self-propelled boom lifts, vertical lifts, and truck-mounted or trailer-mounted platforms. Participants also refresh their understanding of risk management, permit requirements, and emergency and rescue procedures.

IMPAC’s focus is on ensuring operators maintain a high standard of performance when working with MEWPs. Participants step back into the workplace with refreshed knowledge and a renewed focus on applying controls correctly, identifying risks, and ensuring work at height is carried out safely.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:

  • Experienced MEWP operators who need to refresh safe operating practice and maintain confidence on the equipment they use.
  • Workers in construction, maintenance, facilities management, warehousing, logistics, utilities, landscaping, arboriculture, film production, and emergency services where MEWPs are part of the job.
  • Supervisors and health and safety professionals who need a practical refresher on safe MEWP use, worksite assessment, and the controls required for work at height.
  • Organisations that want operators to revisit hazard identification, setup, positioning, shutdown, and rescue planning before poor habits become normal practice.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Mobile Elevated Work Platforms Refresher training approach

IMPAC’s approach to MEWP refresher training is built around the decisions operators make before and during real work, not just a repeat of theory. The focus is on the points where practice often slips over time, helping experienced operators reconnect expectations to what actually happens on site.

Training combines practical activity with discussion, supporting learners to apply legal and site requirements in context. The focus stays on what matters: hazard awareness, effective decision-making, and consistent MEWP practice.
