Overview

ICAM Awareness course overview

When an incident occurs, those first on scene play a critical role. The actions taken in those early moments can have significant impacts on individuals and the organisation. Without a clear understanding of what to do, important information can be missed or compromised. This one-day ICAM Awareness course is designed for line managers, supervisors, and others who need a clear understanding of the ICAM process and their responsibilities within it.

We don’t rely on textbook delivery or theory-heavy content. Instead, our experienced trainers introduce learners to the ICAM methodology in a practical and accessible way. Participants develop an understanding of the investigation process from initial response through to report completion, including how evidence is gathered, how incidents are analysed, and how organisational and human factors contribute to outcomes.

IMPAC’s focus is on building practical understanding so individuals can effectively support the investigation process. Participants step back into the workplace equipped to understand their role, contribute appropriately, and support effective investigation outcomes across their organisation.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:
  • Line managers who need a clear understanding of how the ICAM process works.
  • Supervisors who may be among the first members of management to respond to an incident scene.
  • People expected to help secure a scene, preserve information, or provide evidence during an investigation.
  • Anyone needing practical awareness of their role in supporting an ICAM investigation.

Our approach

+IMPAC's ICAM Awareness training approach

This ICAM training is delivered as a practical introduction to how incident investigation works in real workplaces. The course works step by step through the investigation process, from first response through to report sign-off, with a clear focus on what managers and supervisors need to notice, protect, and communicate when an incident occurs.

Rather than treating ICAM as theory-only content, the training uses guided discussion, workplace examples, and scenario-based learning to show how evidence is gathered, how multiple causes are identified, and how organisational and human factors shape outcomes. The emphasis stays on helping participants understand where early decisions and actions influence the quality of an investigation and where common mistakes can undermine the process.
