This session is run as a practical, discussion-led seminar that helps people make better decisions before they leave the ground. Learners work through common height-work situations, including how hazards are identified, where controls are often missed, and what safe access and egress look like in day-to-day tasks.
Throughout the course, the facilitator uses clear examples to walk through the safe use and limitations of common equipment such as ladders, scaffolds, harnesses, lanyards, and anchors. The focus stays on what matters in real workplaces: choosing the right setup, maintaining safe positioning, avoiding overreaching, understanding rescue considerations, and knowing what to do when conditions change.

Working at height training may be required where workers are exposed to fall risks and need the knowledge and instruction to carry out the work safely. PCBUs must ensure workers are appropriately trained, supervised, and equipped for the work they perform. The exact training needed depends on the task, the environment, the equipment being used, and the level of risk involved.
The seminar runs for 2 hours, covering key working at heights hazards, controls, and equipment considerations in a focused format.
The course covers height hazard identification, common height safety equipment, safe access and egress practices, and emergency response awareness. That includes practical guidance on ladders, scaffolds, harnesses, lanyards, anchors, maintaining three points of contact, and avoiding unsafe positioning such as overreaching. The aim is to help learners recognise risk earlier and apply safer work practices on the job.
No, training does not replace the need for proper planning, supervision, equipment checks, and site-specific controls. Workers still need the right systems in place for the job, including clear rescue and emergency arrangements where those are required. This course supports safer decision-making, but it is only one part of managing work at height well.
IMPAC recommends refresher training at least every two years to help workers maintain safe working practices, hazard awareness, and confidence working at height. Refresher training may also be needed where workplace risks, equipment, procedures, or site conditions change, or following incidents or near misses.
