This course demonstrates how effective health and safety planning reduces costs and increases productivity. Learners explore systematic approaches to improving health and safety performance, highlighting its importance as a driver of organisational success.

Overview

Workplace Health & Safety Planning course overview

Writing a health and safety plan just to sit in a binder and satisfy an auditor does little to improve what is actually happening on the floor. When planning is disconnected from day-to-day work, risks can be missed and the cost of workplace injuries and their impact on productivity can be overlooked. This one-day Workplace Health and Safety Planning course builds understanding of how effective planning supports safer workplaces and improved productivity.

We skip the dry lectures and theory-heavy approach to planning. Instead, our experienced trainers guide learners through interactive activities to explore how workplace records and information can be used alongside key drivers such as cost and productivity to inform planning decisions, supported by practical scenarios. Participants develop the skills to review incident and hazard data, identify patterns, and understand how these link to planning priorities and improvement opportunities.

IMPAC’s focus is on developing capable people who understand that good safety is good business, and how effective planning supports safer, more productive workplaces. Participants leave with a clear understanding of how to develop and apply workplace H&S plans, and step back into the business ready to apply their skills to support safer, more productive workplaces.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:

  • Health and safety practitioners who need to turn incident and hazard information into practical planning priorities.
  • Health and safety representatives who support workplace improvement activity and want a clearer planning process.
  • Supervisors and managers responsible for setting priorities, following through on actions, and explaining why health and safety planning matters.
  • People involved in injury prevention, hazard management, or wider workplace health and safety improvement work.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Workplace Health & Safety Planning training approach

IMPAC teaches this course as a practical planning workshop, not a compliance lecture. Learners work through how incident records, hazard information, productivity drivers, and injury-cost information can be read together so planning decisions are based on what is actually happening in the workplace.

Throughout the day, participants discuss examples and scenarios that show where planning often breaks down, what good prioritisation looks like, and how to turn information into actions people can actually follow. The focus is on helping learners leave able to make sense of their own workplace information and use it to support realistic, workable health and safety plans.
