Overview

Working at Heights Seminar course overview

“It’s just a quick job, she’ll be right” is a common mindset when working at height. This is where risks are underestimated, controls are overlooked, and incidents can occur. This Working at Heights Seminar builds the knowledge, skills, and awareness required to safely access, work in, and egress from elevated areas.

We don’t deliver generic, compliance-focused sessions. Instead, our industry-experienced trainers provide a tailored, interactive seminar delivered on your site, focused on the real risks your workers face. Participants develop an understanding of common height hazards, the correct use of equipment such as ladders, scaffolds, harnesses, and lanyards, and safe work practices including maintaining three points of contact and avoiding overreaching. The seminar also reinforces emergency response and rescue awareness.

IMPAC’s focus is on building awareness and reinforcing safe behaviours when working at height. Participants step back into the workplace equipped to recognise hazards, apply safe work practices, and ensure tasks at height are carried out safely.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:
  • Workers who need to safely access, work in, or move through elevated areas as part of their role.
  • Supervisors and team leaders responsible for overseeing work at height activities.
  • Health and safety personnel, managers, and compliance officers needing a practical understanding of height-related risks and controls.
  • Facility maintenance staff and industrial workers who regularly use ladders, scaffolds, harnesses, lanyards, or other common height safety equipment.
  • Organisations wanting a shared baseline of height safety awareness across teams working in higher-risk environments.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Working at Heights Seminar training approach

This session is run as a practical, discussion-led seminar that helps people make better decisions before they leave the ground. Learners work through common height-work situations, including how hazards are identified, where controls are often missed, and what safe access and egress look like in day-to-day tasks.

Throughout the course, the facilitator uses clear examples to walk through the safe use and limitations of common equipment such as ladders, scaffolds, harnesses, lanyards, and anchors. The focus stays on what matters in real workplaces: choosing the right setup, maintaining safe positioning, avoiding overreaching, understanding rescue considerations, and knowing what to do when conditions change.
