Overview

Confined Space and Gas Detection Refresher (Pre-recorded Webinar) course overview

Confined spaces are too important to let risk fatigue and bad habits slip in. When critical checks, controls, and monitoring become routine, it’s easy for standards to drop without anyone noticing. This Confined Space and Gas Detection Refresher pre-recorded webinar is designed to help learners maintain their capability to work safely in these high-risk environments.

We move away from refreshers that rely on simply revisiting theory. This webinar revisits the key elements of confined space work, including entry processes, gas detection, permit requirements, and monitoring expectations. Learners reinforce how to identify hazards, apply control measures, use gas detection equipment, and interpret atmospheric conditions to ensure work is carried out safely.

IMPAC’s focus is on supporting learners to maintain a consistent, high-quality approach to confined space work. Participants finish the course with a refreshed understanding of their responsibilities, the confidence to apply safe systems of work, and the knowledge required to carry out confined space tasks safely and consistently.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:

  • Workers involved in confined space entry, including entrants.
  • Standby people working around confined space jobs.
  • Supervisors, permit receivers, and permit issuers involved in entry planning and control.
  • Managers and team leaders who oversee confined space work and need a solid understanding of the requirements.
  • Learners who already hold Unit Standards 17599, 18426, and 25510 and need a refresher on safe gas detection and atmospheric testing practice.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Confined Space and Gas Detection Refresher (Pre-recorded Webinar) training approach

+IMPAC uses a pre-recorded webinar format to revisit the parts of confined space work where small lapses can create serious risk. Rather than just replaying definitions, the training works through practical scenarios around entry planning, permit controls, gas testing, ongoing monitoring, and what to do when atmospheric conditions change.

Learners return to the purpose behind the checks, not just the steps themselves. The course reinforces how gas detection equipment is used, how readings should be interpreted in context, and how safe decisions are made before and during entry so the learning stays useful in real workplaces.

Further study options

If you’re continuing your learning journey in health and safety, the unit standards you already hold can contribute towards IMPAC’s Certificate in Applied Workplace Health and Safety Practices (Level 3), which leads to the New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 3).

This refresher course supports you to revisit and apply that knowledge in practice, helping you maintain capability while continuing to work towards a recognised qualification over time. To learn more, click here, or to enrol, click here.

This programme is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under section 439 of the Education and Training Act 2020, and Impac Services Limited is accredited to provide it under section 441 of the Education and Training Act.
