Overview

Health & Safety Leadership for Workers course overview

Assuming health and safety is someone else’s responsibility is where things start to break down. When workers walk past a hazard thinking “it’s not my job,” or when unsafe behaviour is ignored because no one wants to step in, risks can quickly escalate. Health and safety is everyone’s responsibility, and it relies on people being willing to act, speak up, and challenge what doesn’t look right. This Health & Safety Leadership for Workers course is designed to give learners the knowledge and confidence to actively contribute to a safer workplace.

This course is practical and engaging, without relying on dry, lecture-style delivery. Facilitated by experienced trainers, it focuses on building real capability through activities and group discussion. Participants develop the skills to identify hazards, understand risk, and contribute to incident reporting and investigations. The course also explores how incidents occur, what their responsibilities are under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, and how they can positively influence the behaviour of those around them.

IMPAC’s focus is on supporting workers to play an active role in maintaining a safe work environment. Participants leave with a clear understanding of how they can contribute, the confidence to speak up, and the tools to challenge the status quo when something doesn’t feel right. Your workers step back onto the site equipped to take ownership of safety, support their team, and help ensure everyone goes home safe.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:
  • Workers involved in health and safety who need a practical understanding of how to contribute day to day.
  • Team leaders who need to reinforce safe behaviour and support worker participation on the ground.
  • Frontline workers who are expected to identify hazards, respond to risks, and speak up when something is not right.
  • Organisations that want workers to take a more active role in incident prevention, reporting, and safer work practices.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Health & Safety Leadership for Workers training approach

This course is delivered as practical, discussion-led training rather than a long lecture. Learners work through realistic workplace scenarios and examples that show how hazards are identified, how risks build when concerns are ignored, and what effective worker participation looks like in everyday operations.

Facilitators use guided discussion, group activities, and practical exercises to connect HSWA 2015 duties with the choices people make at work. The emphasis stays on keeping the learning relevant and applied, helping learners recognise where things commonly go wrong and how worker participation supports safer day-to-day work.
