Health & Safety Champions course overview

When concerns go unspoken or hazards aren’t followed through, opportunities to improve safety are missed. Health and Safety Champions can play an important role in supporting worker participation and helping keep safety visible in day-to-day work—but only if they have the confidence and skills to step forward. This Health & Safety Champions course is designed to give learners the practical skills to actively support and influence health and safety in their workplace.
 
This course is practical and engaging, without relying on dry, lecture-style delivery. Facilitated by experienced trainers, it focuses on building real capability through activities and group discussion. Participants develop the skills to identify and report hazards, contribute to incident reporting, and take part effectively in health and safety conversations and meetings. The course also builds confidence in communication and influence, helping learners support positive safety behaviours within their teams.
 
IMPAC’s focus is on supporting champions to play an active and effective role in their organisation’s health and safety approach. Participants leave with a clear understanding of how they can contribute, the confidence to speak up, and the tools to support communication between workers and management. Your champions step back into the workplace ready to engage their teams, support better reporting, and contribute to a more proactive safety culture.

  • Organisations developing future Health and Safety Representatives who need a practical first step into stronger worker participation.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Health & Safety Champions training approach

IMPAC delivers this course as a practical workshop rather than a lecture. Learners work through realistic workplace scenarios, group discussion, and guided exercises that show how to spot issues early, raise them clearly, and keep health and safety conversations focused on solutions.

Facilitators connect HSWA 2015 duties to what people actually need to do at work, so the content feels relevant rather than abstract. Participants practise how to report hazards clearly, contribute to incident reporting, and take part in meetings in a way that leads to action.

The result is training that goes beyond theory. Learners leave with clearer language, better judgement, and the confidence to speak up, support safe behaviours, and take an active role in improving safety in their workplace.
