Overview

Health & Safety Committees course overview

A Health and Safety Committee that meets to tick a compliance box but lacks focus and direction isn’t improving anything on the floor. When meetings drift off-topic and lack clear purpose, discussions go in circles and nothing actually changes. This one-day Health and Safety Committees course provides a structured approach to running effective meetings that support meaningful improvements in the workplace.
 
We ditch the dry lectures on meeting agendas and minutes. Instead, our industry-experienced trainers guide learners through the practical elements of running a committee, supported by interactive activities and group discussions. Participants develop the skills to structure effective agendas, manage discussions that drift or stall, navigate conflict and differing views, and engage the wider workforce in meaningful health and safety conversations.
 
IMPAC’s focus is on building capable committees that add genuine value to your organisation, rather than just meeting compliance requirements. Participants leave with a clear understanding of their role and practical tools to support their committee. Committee members return to the workplace better equipped to move their meetings from passive discussion into active drivers of real health and safety improvement on the floor.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Health & Safety Committees training approach

This course is run as practical skills training rather than a lecture about committee paperwork. Facilitators use discussion and scenario-based activities to show learners how effective committees prepare for meetings, keep conversations on track, and turn issues raised by workers into actions that can actually be followed through.

Across the day, participants work through agenda planning, meeting roles, communication challenges, and the kinds of situations that commonly slow committees down, such as unclear responsibilities, drifting discussions, or differing views in the room. The focus is on helping people practise good meeting habits, stronger participation, and sound judgement so the committee can support real health and safety improvement back at work.

This course is delivered over one day.

Training is available in person nationwide or live online via Zoom for in-house delivery, with public courses delivered live online via Zoom.
