This refresher is delivered as practical training rather than a theory-only recap. Facilitators take learners back through the core steps of workplace first aid using realistic scenarios, guided discussion, and hands-on practice so people can test their response under pressure and rebuild confidence where skills may have become rusty.
Across the session, learners work through incident assessment, scene and hazard management, CPR, AED use, and responses to common injuries and sudden illness. The focus stays on refreshing technique, judgement, and calm decision-making so participants are ready to provide effective care until further help arrives.

Refresher training is strongly recommended wherever a workplace relies on trained first aiders to meet its first aid arrangements. WorkSafe NZ guidance expects PCBUs to maintain suitable first aid capability, and refresher training helps make sure people can still respond effectively instead of relying on old or half-remembered training.
Yes, learners must complete the online learning component at least 72 hours before attending the practical session. Learners also need written and spoken English equivalent to NCEA Level 1 (Year 11) or an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher, and must be physically able to perform CPR, including kneeling on the floor and using both hands and arms during practical activities. If a learner has physical limitations or may need additional support, please contact our team before enrolment to discuss available options.
The refresher course takes approximately 4–6 hours to complete, depending on the course schedule and learner numbers. The training focuses on refreshing practical first aid skills, CPR, and emergency response capability.
Yes, this course includes one assessment. The assessment helps confirm that learners can still apply refreshed first aid knowledge and practical skills in an emergency setting, rather than only recalling the theory.
No, this refresher course does not award new NZQA unit standards. It is designed for learners who already hold Unit Standards 6400, 6401, and 6402 and need to refresh their workplace first aid knowledge and practical response skills.
For this course, refresher training should be completed at least every two years. That helps keep first aid knowledge and practical response skills current, which matters when workplaces rely on trained people to step in during an emergency. If a certificate is older than two years and three months, the current page content says a full first aid course is needed instead of a refresher.
Learners who successfully complete the refresher course will receive an updated Certificate of Competency from IMPAC.
Yes, this course is available for in-house delivery nationwide, and public courses may also be available depending on demand. In-house refresher training can help organisations keep workplace first aid capability current while training teams at their own site or preferred location.

- A driver’s licence or another form of photo identification
- Practical clothing suitable for kneeling and hands-on activities
In-house: $1950 + GST for up to 15 persons.
Public (face-to-face): $130 + GST per person.
