Critical Control Verification

Critical control verification isn't a paperwork exercise to rush through. It's one of the most important things your organisation does to make sure the controls protecting your people from serious harm are in place every time — because when they're not, the risk of serious injury is real. But verification only delivers that protection when the people carrying it out know what they're looking for and why it matters. This one-day workshop is designed for health and safety teams, operational leaders, subject matter experts, and workers who want to carry out verifications that genuinely do the job.

We don't do death by PowerPoint lectures. Our experienced health and safety professionals get participants into the substance of what effective critical control verification actually looks like — diving into a range of common critical risks and the controls that matter most. While the session doesn't cover every critical risk, participants build a solid understanding of what good looks like across the controls they're most likely to encounter, what warning signs to watch for, and what to do when a control isn't in place.

IMPAC's focus is on building real verification capability. Participants leave with the confidence to carry out verifications that give their organisation an accurate picture of whether critical controls are genuinely protecting people — not just recorded as complete.

IMPAC delivers Critical Control Verification as a practical, activity-based workshop. Rather than working through verification as a process to follow, the day is built around developing the ability to read a situation — starting with the foundations of critical risk management before moving into the core of the workshop: working through a range of common critical risks and their controls using worked examples and facilitated discussion drawn from New Zealand industries.

Participants practise spotting what good looks like, identifying warning signs, and working out what to do when a control isn't in place. The session also steps back to look at how effectiveness reporting connects to the verifications participants carry out, and helps them understand their role in the broader critical risk programme — not as people completing a form, but as people whose observations directly inform whether critical controls are genuinely protecting people.

If you’re continuing your learning journey in health and safety, you can progress to the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
