Blended First Aid Training

This course suits workplace employees, school staff, teachers, community volunteers, caregivers, parents, and anyone wanting practical first aid skills. It is designed for people who may need to respond before emergency services arrive, whether at work, school, or in the community. The focus is on practical response skills rather than prior medical experience.

PCBUs must ensure appropriate first aid arrangements are in place based on the risks in the workplace. That often includes having trained first aiders available to respond to injuries, medical events, or emergencies. While this specific course is not legally required for every worker, it is commonly used by workplaces to help meet those obligations.

Yes, learners need written and spoken English equivalent to NCEA Level 1 (Year 11) or an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher, and must be physically able to perform CPR. This includes kneeling on the floor and using both hands and arms during practical activities. If a learner has physical limitations or may need additional support, please contact our team before enrolment to discuss available options.

This course combines self-directed online learning with face-to-face practical training and assessment. Learners complete the online component first before attending the in-person session to practise skills, complete assessment requirements, and demonstrate practical first aid capability.

The course takes 1 day in person, plus 3–4 hours of online learning. The online component must be completed at least 72 hours before the practical session so learners arrive prepared for practical training and assessment. This blended format keeps face-to-face time focused on hands-on application.

Yes, this course includes an online theory assessment and a practical assessment for NZQA Unit Standards 6400, 6401, and 6402.

Learners who successfully complete the assessments can achieve NZQA Unit Standards 6400, 6401, and 6402 covering basic life support, CPR and AED use, and the management of common injuries and sudden illness.

IMPAC recommends refresher training at least every two years to help maintain first aid knowledge, practical response skills, and confidence in emergency situations. Some workplaces, clients, or industry requirements may require more frequent refresher training depending on their operational risks and procedures.

No, NZQA unit standards do not expire from a learner’s Record of Achievement. However, workplaces must ensure first aid capability remains current, and many industries require evidence of recent first aid training to demonstrate ongoing competence.

Yes, this course is available for in-house delivery nationwide. In-house training can help organisations train teams at their own site while reducing staff travel and downtime.

• A driver’s licence or another form of photo identification
• Practical clothing suitable for kneeling and hands-on activities

For public face-to-face courses, morning tea and lunch are provided. Please note that dietary preferences cannot be accommodated.

In-house: $2600 + GST for up to 12 persons, with additional persons charged at $195 + GST each (maximum of 16).
