Overview

Workplace Risk Assessment course overview

Effective risk management requires more than completing paperwork. If hazards, risks, and controls are not clearly understood, there is a greater chance that risks will not be effectively identified or managed in the workplace. This one-day Workplace Risk Assessment course provides a practical introduction to identifying hazards, assessing risks, and applying controls in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA).

We don't do ‘death by PowerPoint’ or overly theoretical training. Instead, our industry-experienced trainers get learners stuck in, using examples and scenario-based group work that reflect the reality of New Zealand workplaces. Participants build practical skills in carrying out risk assessments, understanding risk in context, and communicating and consulting with others to support effective risk management.

IMPAC’s focus is on building practical capability that adds genuine value to your operations, rather than just ticking a compliance box. Participants leave with a clear understanding of legal requirements and the confidence to carry out risk assessments and support effective risk management in their workplaces.

Curriculum

What you'll cover

This course is designed for:

  • Supervisors and managers who need to make sure risks are assessed before work starts and controls are clearly understood.
  • Engineers and project managers who need a practical process for hazard identification, risk assessment, and control selection.
  • Workers carrying out physical work or operating machinery where day-to-day tasks require a clear and workable risk assessment process.
  • Team leaders and others responsible for communicating hazards, risks, and control measures with workers on site.

Our approach

+IMPAC's Workplace Risk Assessment training approach

IMPAC delivers this course as practical training that shows learners how to work through a risk assessment properly, not just how to fill in a form. The day is built around clear explanation, guided discussion, and examples that help people understand what good hazard identification, risk assessment, and control selection look like in real work.

Learners work through scenarios that reflect everyday workplace decisions, using scene-based activities to identify hazards, judge the level of risk, and choose controls that are realistic for the job. The training also gives attention to consultation and communication so the learning stays connected to how risks are discussed, reviewed, and managed on site.
