Permit Issuer course overview
Curriculum
What you'll cover
- Workers, supervisors, and authorised personnel who issue permits to work on behalf of their PCBU.
- People responsible for confirming worksite conditions, controls, and permit requirements before high-risk work begins.
- Individuals who already understand risk assessment and need stronger permit-to-work capability in day-to-day operations.
- Teams working around higher-risk activities such as hot work, confined space entry, working at height, and excavation.
Our approach
+IMPAC's Permit Issuer training approach
IMPAC’s permit issuer training is built around the decisions permit issuers need to make before high-risk work starts, while work is underway, and when the permit is closed out. Instead of treating the permit as a form-filling exercise, the course works through a practical scenario that shows what effective permit control looks like when hot work, confined space entry, work at height, or excavation is involved.
Learners work through how to confirm the job is ready to start, check that the right controls are in place, question gaps before authorising work, and close out permits properly once the work is complete. The training keeps the focus on clear authorisation decisions, active monitoring, communication between workgroups, and how permits support safer work across the wider permit-to-work system.
