This course equips learners with the knowledge to safely handle, store, and dispose of hazardous substances, manage emergencies, and minimize exposure risks. Learners gain insight into regulatory requirements and best practices for health and safety management.
Learners will also be able to identify health and safety risks associated with workplace chemicals, and identify, select, and apply the legislated and other controls designed to minimise workers' exposure to these risks. It also ensures proper reporting procedures are followed.
This course aligns with Regulation 4.5 of the Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017, ensuring compliance for workers at risk of exposure.

- Workers who handle, store, decant, or dispose of hazardous substances as part of their day-to-day work.
- Supervisors and team leaders who need to oversee hazardous substances work and check that controls are being applied properly.
- Health and safety personnel, safety officers, compliance officers, and managers responsible for hazardous substances risk management.
- People working in manufacturing, construction, chemical processing, utilities, and facility maintenance where chemical use is part of normal operations.
- Organisations that need staff to understand classification, exposure risks, controls, and response expectations under New Zealand hazardous substances requirements.
