NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

Outline

Minimum of 2 years of learning.

The syllabus is divided into four units, each of which is assessed separately; three by written examination, with a separate written assignment designed to test the candidates ability to apply knowledge across the syllabus. Only by passing all four units can the candidate be awarded the qualification but the candidate will receive a certificate of achievement for each unit separately.

The Units are:
IA Managing health and safety
IB Hazardous substances / agents
IC Workplace and work equipment safety
DNI Application of health and safety in the workplace - An 8000-12000 word assignment,
completed in the workplace

The course also includes a non-assessed Core Skills Unit, which covers communication and training.

Objectives

The NEBOSH International Diploma is the most widely recognised high-level qualification for Occupational Safety and Health Practitioners. Truly international in scope, the syllabus takes a risk management approach based on best practice and international standards. On successful completion of the qualification, the Diploma holder may apply for Graduate membership (Grad IOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the world’s largest professional body for health and safety practitioners. Graduate members may apply for Chartered Status (CMIOSH) after two years.

Who this course is aimed at

The International Diploma is suitable for anyone seeking to enhance their knowledge and understanding of health and safety to honors degree level (equivalent to level 7 on the NZQA framework) and to have it recognised through an internationally accredited qualification. It is the “must have” qualification for H&S Managers, Advisers and others who have responsibility for H&S in their organisation.
